Osprey Talon 22 vs Tempest 20

Osprey has launched two models that are aimed for backpacking and day hiking, Talon and Tempest. Both of these two models are designed to be light, nimble, and comfortable. Interestingly, these two backpacks share very similar looks to each other, and they are also available in the same price range. Hence, you are probably wondering what the differences are between Talon and Tempest, and which one that you better choose. See the comparisons between Osprey Talon 22 vs Tempest 20 below!

Size and Dimension
The first difference between Osprey Talon 22 vs Tempest 20 is the overall dimensions. Of course, both the Talon and the Tempest have been designed to be light and nimble. However, the Talon is actually a little bit bigger and heavier than the Tempest.

Osprey Talon 22 comes with two size options, Small and Medium. Both sizes have 11” total width and 11” total depth. However, the Small size has 18.1” height, providing a total capacity of 20 Liters, whereas the Medium size has 20.1” height to provide a total capacity of 22 Liters.

On the other hand, Osprey Tempest 20 comes with two size options which are Extra Small and Small. Both sizes measure 11” wide and 10.6” deep. As you can see, Osprey Tempest 20 is a slightly slimmer and more compact model. Its two sizes also vary by height, with the Extra Small size providing a total capacity of 18 Liters and the Small size providing 20 Liters.

The approximate two liters of extra capacity offered by Osprey Talon 22 is definitely an advantage. It enables you to load two or three extra clothes, for example. The slightly thicker size of the bag actually does not give much of a problem.

Build Quality
Both Talon 22 and Tempest 20 have excellent build quality. They are both constructed from 70D x 100D Nylon Mini Shadow Brick fabric, and are further reinforced with 420HD Nylon Packcloth fabric. They are rugged and durable, ready to face the abuse of traveling. Each of the two models also features an aluminum peripheral frame that effectively evens and distributes the load weight, a built-in hip-belt, and the BioStretch harness as well as the AirScape back panel for the ultimate comfort.

Additional Features
If you put the two backpacks side by side, you can see that they share a lot of resemblances to each other. As if, they are twins, just one being slightly bigger and the other slightly smaller. They have very identical designs and additional features, including stretch mesh side pockets that you can use to put water bottles, a stretch mesh harness slash pocket that is handy for quick access to essential items, and a top panel zippered slash pocket – By the way, if you think that you need a dedicated water reservoir sleeve, take a look at Osprey Talon 22 vs Stratos 24.
